Leadership and Learning Curves

Today I read one of my favorite author's blog posts.  John Maxwell is courageous, instructional, inspirational and a blessing.  His view on Leadership is commendable and although I do not lead anything at the moment, I have in the past and I will in the future.  But let me tell you this, in our own small way, in our own back yard and within our circle we really do have an influence and even moments of leadership with those we cherish, that we love and that we work with each day.  I will continue to glean from this Godly and influential man wisdom and insight to be a better person, to be a better leader.  When I learn from those who have Godly influence and Godly wisdom I will be prepared when I am called forward to lead wherever it might be (i.e., small group, prayer group, women's group or even on the job and in my home).

My take on one of his latest posts, Maturity - The Value of Learning, was that unexpected losses and setbacks occur in life.  This is just living so as we live we work through the emotional baggage that comes through the loss so one should not stymie oneself from gleaning from the experience at hand.  The lines I read between told me that by being open I learn, grow and develop the character traits needed to move forward with resolve so that I enrich those within my circle of influence, so that those enrich the people in their circle and so on.  I envision this as a pebble in a brook that skips to ripple the water forward and again, and again, and forward so that this brook (the people in our life and the people in their lives) grow.  We learn as we grow and in growth comes maturity.  I look forward to reading his new book, "Sometimes You Win, Sometimes You Learn" to realize more truths in this concept.

Long ago I wondered why I continued to face trials, tribulation, pain and learning curves and then one day as gentle as a breeze the Lord impressed upon me that I was not yet ready for what He was preparing for me until I had learned what was needed to do the work He has in store for me.  It isn't an easy road by any means but my Father is faithfully and patiently working me through the fire to refine me and with each hiccup (really that is more kin to what I view as trials) I learn a little more, grow a little stronger, seek a little further.

I am on God's learning curve and with each day that I live I see that a lifetime of lessons keep me growing from one season to the next.

Etsy

Etsy!  Yes!

My Banner for Creatively Cizon on Etsy (spinning off from this blog).

Too many people have said what a great job my hand crafted cards are and why not sale some too!  So without further pause I am creating an Etsy Account to share my artistic nature via hand-crafted cards and acrylic art work.

This will be a blast and I can't wait!  I'm busy setting up Etsy, picking the best way to weigh and ship through the USPS.  I am also looking at bringing in some extra stamps, embellishments and paper to create as well as canvass to spread a little acrylic and love on as inspired!  By no means am I able to give up the day job but I sure hope to have a great journey with my craft and who knows where it leads.  I'd really like to have enough items created to set up at the Boulder City Arts and Crafts Fair during the fall of 2014!  Now that would be something.

I'll keep you updated on my progress and will soon announce the grand opening of Creatively Cizon on Etsy!

Church Signs

VOLUMES FROM A FEW WORDS

Growing up in Eastern New Mexico and the Texas Panhandle it was not uncommon to see messages across the land via church signs.  Some were funny, some were serious but they all conveyed a love for the people.  Now that live out in the Wild West of Las Vegas, NV there are fewer church signs to inspire but I have one on my way to and from our local shopping corner.  Its a little Baptist church who just recently celebrated 50 years and I just love their signs.

Today I came across an image online of a church sign that just made me chuckle so I thought I would share it with you.  Being a non-smoker it was humorous but more importantly being a child of God it was spot on!  I am a non-smoker for eternity!

From time to time as I come across signs I like I'll post them below!  Until we meet again, blessings to you my friend!

Making Room - One Day At A Time

These are the days of my life.
Where I Grow, I Learn, I Think, I Become.

Do I Accept The Challenge ?

I sit here thinking.  I am contemplating today why and how as I prayerfully consider the importance of a career in Mary Kay, again.  Several times last month I was awoken from dreams where I was a thriving Mary Kay consultant.  What does that mean?

I responded recently to a friends email of 8 that she sent to me.  Usually I do not forward these types of email on but this one I did. I sent on to 8 people who inspire me and who I greatly admire.  I sent it to Rebbecca my former Director/NSD because she is one of 8 who inspire me to be me and to grow in all my potential.  I didn't expect her to reply because she is a busy woman but she has always taken time to encourage me.  She was very sweet and she also added two sentences to her reply that has me thinking and praying again about what it is I am to do in this world.  She asked me, "Any chance u have room in your life to grow a Mary Kay business?  Still luv for your to b one of my directors!"

I've visited with my daughter and my husband about this recent email from Rebbecca.  My husband is excited and proud and encouraging me.  When I asked him what he thought he replied, "I've always been for it you're a natural.  I'll support you all the way!"  He is an OTR trucker at this time and he went on to tell me when he was recently in Dallas he passed their headquarters to which I replied that I was able to tour it when I went to Seminar in 2009!  My daughter was also as encouraging if I am serious about making it work this time!  I think I am.

So for the next few weeks I'll be in prayer over a decision that can change not only my life but that of my family, friends and people I do not even know yet.  Pray with me that God will open doors and provide financially and emotionally  and physically for all that this decision will entail and require.  I'm not going to go give up my day job (yet) but if I do go back into Mary Kay I want it to be the career path decision.

Making my list, planning the plans, setting up growing pains so that I can grow.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
10/6/13:
After Note (decided on or about 9/12/13):
I contemplated returning to consultant status however I have decided after careful and prayerful consideration that it is not that time.

Scrapping Crop Weekend - Disney Layouts

A Scrapping Time at Scrappy-do in Henderson

Had an awesome weekend of designing layout pages to support pictures of our trip to Disneyland in 2008.  Met my friend Beth at Scrappy-do in Henderson where we had a time of visiting, scrapping and socializing with our crop weekend friends!

I spent Friday evening getting motivated and started but worked really hard on Saturday from noon - midnight to get much accomplished.  I am creating 8x8 pages for this vacation book.  Had a lot of fun on the trip and wanted to create a memory book for it.  We've moved since the trip so I am having trouble locating the memory card with the pics but I will prevail and find them to add!  The 8x8 book is expandable by 10 more pages so I plan to keep working on this book as I have plenty of pictures (I just have to find them)!   I have pics from the day we spent at Disneyland, from the hotel, and our last day that we spent with the kids in Orange County at Laguna Beach.

Below are the 8x8 page layouts I created!
This will be my title page...

One of my favorites to create.

Used really cool glitter paper to make sand / water!

This will be the last page of the album.

There will be a few pages to add of the hotel - loved that we had an avocado tree just outside our window!  Plus pics from our trip to Laguna Beach will be in this album too - Our Disney / So Cali 2008 Vacation!  **Will add Hotel and Beach Layouts when completed.

Gym Membership

I have gone and done it!

Yes, I joined the Las Vegas Athletic Club.

I'm looking forward to finally donning my Akona Shorty, Henderson Water Shoes  and TUSA View Swim Cap and jumping into the pool.  I love the pool at the Sandhill Location (I've been a previous LVAC member) and cannot wait to get back into the groove of consistent exercise.

I plan on starting with the next Aquaerobics class this coming Tuesday evening.  Four classes a week 3-Aquaerobics and 1-H20 Core Class to begin.  I also have with my membership a trainer 3x this first month and then 1x each month thereafter.  I intend to find the trainer who will teach me to use the pool for all exercise (strength training, etc.)

There was a time when I could walk the treadmill 60-90 minutes at a slow 2.5 - 3.0 fat burn pace and would use the dumb bells to trim and strengthen my body and then...I fell down the stairs, learned I have RA and life changed.  I don't want to be slowed down any more by a body that is unfit.  I want to be able to have the body, the energy and the strength to sustain exercise and living.  I want to be fit and healthy and energetic.

Small steps beginning in the pool this week with dreams of loosing significant weight to be at a healthy 19-21 on the BMI scale, swimming laps, steadily walking the treadmill (I can only get to 1.0 mph at this time and that is stretching it), and maybe someday scuba diving and snow skiing.

A girl can dream ~ but she can also be determined, set goals and follow through!

Journey To The Skinny Me - With The Skinny Rules

Journey To The Skinny Me With The Skinny Rules

For years I've had a set way of how I thought it was best to shed pounds and on occasion the weight has shed only to return.  I've read books and I'm reading a new book with a new approach for me.  It still shares some of the same healthy foods that I've learned to love but it also has a laid out plan that appears to be easy to follow.  I am looking forward to following The Skinny Rules as laid out in Bob Harper's book The Skinny Way.  It is simple and straight forward and if a contestant on The Biggest Loser can win with his planning I know that I can win too.

The book lays out seven meal choice options for breakfast, lunch, dinner and two snacks for each day.  One would think that it is a no-brainer and who couldn't possibly loose with the plan laid out so well.  I'm going to take up the challenge, I'm motivated and I'm going to succeed.  I am so thrilled to learn about this book.  Kudos's to Stephanie, the best hair stylist a girl could hope for, for sharing that The Skinny Way book existed.  Thank you and huge shout out to @Glitterygrl for my fabulous hair and book suggestion!

I have some of the food for the first week in stock (hopefully enough to get through tomorrow) and I'll go tomorrow and stock up on the rest of what is needed for success.  I'm adding @MyTrainerBob to my Twitter for what I hear are his inspiring tweets!

Stick with me and we'll see just how well The Skinny Way Rules turn out.  So many rules (only twenty) and so much to remember but you know I think it will be worth it.  Can't Never Could Because He didn't Try - I am not named Can't.  I am Cizon and I will try!

Not Have

Have you ever had "the nots"?

It's the feeling, the over-whelming feeling of I Have Not, I Am Not, I Cannot or even Why Not?  It hits like a brick wall and then the whirl-winds of I Should Have, I Could Have, I Would Have, Why Didn't I feelings hit. This is sin. This is the devil stealing your thunder.
NOT / HAVE
This is that space, hidden and quiet, that longs to be filled that often times cries out (fill in the blank) Not or (feel in the blank) Have!  It's the God Hole that longs to be filled with the fruits of His spirit.  Do you long for love, joy, peace, long-suffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, or temperance?  Do you seek Hope?  Within this space is a void that only God can fill and genuinely comfort the soul.  It's a longing.  It should bring you to your knees crying out Abba Father.

God brings us through seasons so we grow.  Are you too growing through Not and Have?  In this age of instantaneous communication and abundant static we often will lose sight of purpose.  It isn't your purpose to wonder or suppose Not and Have.  It reminds me of the story of Jacob wrestling with the Lord (Genesis 32).  Some nights I wrestle, some nights I ponder and plan.  It's not for me to control the outcome of not have but it is time to let go and be blessed.  Why wrestle when the one who knows us best has the not have under control?

"For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."  Jeremiah 29:11 (NIV)
Our hope is in the King of Kings and Lord of Lords.
Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.  And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.  Philippians 4:6-7 (NIV)

These two verses have held me together as I graciously pass through the valley of Not and Have.  Never so much in 46 years of life have I in the past three years crossed paths with these two characters.  It is a longing more in line with Why Not, I Could Have, I Should Have, I Would Have and Why Didn't I.

Some Call It Regret,

Others Mid-Life, but...

 I Call It God's Grace

God is bringing me through Not and Have.  I see His hand upon my life as I look around.  When I find myself in the Not and Have moods that prey upon me I am thankful for the still voice of His Holy Spirit calmly walking me back to center field and reminding me that He is the Way, He is the Truth and He is the Life (John 14:6).

I recently read a cartoon on Facebook and it succinctly illuminated the overexposure of living life in these times.  Maybe you too saw it.  It was a sheep lounging out in the meadow on an out door chair in front of a blaring TV, laptop upon his lap, book in hand, headphones on to iPod and a boombox blaring in the background with the Shepherd calling from up over the hillside for his sheep.  The bubble has the sheep saying "I Wonder Why I Don't Hear From The Shepherd Anymore" with his Bible laying off to the side of his chair.   The punch line or shall I call it the truth line of the cartoon unfolded with John 10:27, "My sheep listen to my voice, I know them, and they follow me."

Are you a bit overwhelmed by the "things" of this world too?

Facebook, Twitter, Texting, Email, Thoughts - all congregate to clutter the mind.  It's battle in there that results from overexposure and over-processing.  Don't compare yourself to the pedestal you have placed yourself upon or others upon that you compare or wish to compare yourself.
You are Right Where God Has Purposed You To Be For This Season
I am right where God has me purposed too for this season.  I have a laundry list of Not(s) and Have(s) that I battle but God is winning and for this I am thankful.  As always, I know, He is preparing me.  Each season is a lesson in drawing nearer to my Saviour.

POINTS TO PONDER:

  • Are you in the Season of Not and Have?
  • Have you been there?
  • Did you come through the fire to the other side of Not and Have?

Please share with me your comment on how you are coming through or came past have and not.

Have a joy-filled day,

Acrylic 101 My Way

Painting By Ear... er...
Playing It By Ear.... um...
Painting.
Yes I am Painting

I've always sung to the tune of I'll do it my way while playing it by ear.  All projects sewing, cooking, etc., have been this way so why should painting be any different?  Walls washed, baseboard painted green with strokes of beginning grass and I finally decided to start the project in full.

Last weekend I created a tree and now I am working on the sky.  I'm not to thrilled with the sky at this point so I may be white-washing some tomorrow and starting fresh with it.  I think its a little dark but my dear daughter says it looks good.  I have to live with it so I'll make a few changes.  Once I finish the sky I will be going back to the tree and giving it some more character and shading as well as minor branches with leaves.  This has been really exciting and fun to watch my free hand create something so amazing.

I have to say I love Blick Art Supply.  Shout out to the wonderful workers at my Blick on Decatur here in Las Vegas, NV.  Ya'll are awesome, encouraging and helpful!
I love the supplies I am using.  I have selected Blick Artist items such as Acrylic Modeling Paste to make the tree look and feel like a tree and have also used come of the Acrylic Gloss Medium on the tree.  I'll use more of it to seal the end result and make my work shine.

Another item I wish I would have used was the Acrylic Gesso as a base.  We recently painted the walls a white and I was told this should work okay however I'm thinking maybe I might want to use Gesso for my next project.

Colors have been Blick Studio Acrylics.  I am currently using Raw Umber, Titanium White and Cobalt Blue Hue.  I have shades of green and sienna and yellow oxide for my grass and leaves that will eventually find their way to the wall.

The inspiration to create a family tree came about last year via Pinterest when I saw and fell in love with this:

Isn't that just a gorgeous set up?  Well I am creating my own version of it and including genealogy to boot.  I plan to photographically create a family tree placing pictures on the tree as shown above.  It will allow me to research family history and scour wherever I am lead for photo's and information of our families roots.  I am excited at the prospect of discovery!

Points to Ponder:

  • Do you have a craft that you love?
  • Do you too ???? by ear? You fill in the blank (sing, play, draw, paint, cook, sew, etc.)
  • Do you research your family history and if so have you found creative ways to display the history or share it with others?

Looking forward to hearing from you.
Until we meet again....

Joy Filled Birthday Living in 2013

Joy Filled Birthday Living

What a wonderful way to start a very joy filled day today by being served breakfast in bed!

Happy Birthday to Me!

My delightful Gabrielle and Andrew prepared a healthy breakfast of fruit and cream cheese/toast with a cup of hot tea.  I am blessed.

46th Birthday Breakfast in Bed - 03.10.2013

The rest of my day will consist of relaxing.  My bum knee is bothering me today and side tracked some of my plans of getting out - but I am going to push through and maybe work a little more my Acrylic painting project today. I am working on a big project that I'll add to the Creatively Cizon page within a few weeks (will take me that much longer to finish - but must be completed by 4/4/13!).

The day will end with a birthday cookout/dinner at my parents home.  Looking forward to this day this day that my Lord has made!  REJOICE!!!

Hugs to each of you on this wonderful Sunday.  May you find joy and peace and love as you journey today.

Keeping It Real - Summary

Well I keep saying I will post to be accountable yet I do not.

So Here Goes...a Summary to date...
I lost two pounds and a 1/2" each in the waist and hips last week!
That's about all I am tracking now on a weekly basis except for a weekly blood glucose level (I refuse to be a diabetic) and my blood pressure/pulse.  I do this weekly each Sunday.

I somewhat tracked weight last summer but when I ended up in the hospital last September I began to seriously track blood glucose level (Bgl), blood pressure (b/p), weight and added in waist for good measure but only on a weekly basis.  I have recently started checking my hips because I was curious.  I may add upper ab region just to have a tracking.  From time to time, more random than not, I'll measure the complete body.  I guess my last time was back last summer.  I'll find the chart going back years and pop a few measurements in here later for that so that we can really see progress (or setback) as it may be.  Pictures tell a thousand stories so take a look at the photo journal too.
Check out my SUMMARY CHART
I will also post at the end of the day (just before bedtime) my daily accountability report.  I find this useful for me in that I putting it out there what I've done and allow you to provide positive and encouraging feedback.
A JOURNAL IS YOUR BEST FRIEND
There was a time when MSN had groups.  I belonged to an awesome group of South Beach Diet followers and we had our journals.  These journals were inspiring and encouraging.  My intentions with my daily Keeping It Real blog posts will be to bring back that accountability and approach to weight loss that I once found so very useful.  I miss my friend Karen's journal entries.  She was a true inspiration!

You will find my daily blog posts under CIZON'S DAILY JOURNAL where I will attempt to keep it real, out there and honest.

Enjoy the journey as you read my posts.  I hope to inspire and encourage you too as I work past my demons, struggles and success on this journey to a healthier me.

Heartfelt Thank You

A heartfelt gratitude of thanks to each of you who have taken time to read an entry or cross paths upon the pages of this website/blog.  I so appreciate each of you.  I've taken time away from the computer and blogging for over seven months but when I came back today I find that many, many people have crossed the pages over these past months, over this past week.  Thank you.  I will endeavor now to continue creating, seeking, sharing and commemorating what crosses my heart and my path on this journey called life.  This is As I C It and this girl is on fire!  Thank you.
