How Do You Communicate With God?

Pursue and Cry Out - You Are My Glorious God!

I LOVE MUSIC, I love music!  Hymns, southern gospel, praise and worship, classical, classic rock and little bit of good old country (from back when it was western/country).

Music is communication.  It speaks to the depths of my soul.  God and I converse a lot when music abounds - and music is always around, even as I sing and hum old favorites.

I've wondered in the past, as others have I'm sure, why we can't just stick to hymns in church or older praise melodies.  I'm guilty.  It's not a new issue as I learned today.

Back in 1948, A.W. Tozer's thoughts were along the same line.  I'm currently reading his book, "The Pursuit of God", and it is inspiring, instructive and uplifting.

The following caused my heart to ponder this afternoon (from the book):  "'His track I see and I'll pursue,' sang our fathers only a short generation ago, but that song is heard no more in the great congregation.  How tragic that we in this dark day have had our seeking done for us by our teachers.  Everything is made to center upon the initial act of 'accepting' Christ (a term, incidentally, which is not found in the Bible) and we are not expected thereafter to crave any further revelation of God to our souls.  We have been snared in the coils of a spurious logic which insists that if we have found Him we need no more seek Him."

A few sentences later he goes on with: "In the midst of this great chill there are some, I rejoice to acknowledge, who will not be content with shallow logic.  They will admit the force of the argument, and then turn away with tears to hunt some lonely place and pray,'O God, show me thy glory.'  They want to taste, to touch with their hearts, to see with their inner eyes the wonder that is God."

As I am pursuing my saviour and treasuring this study I want to encourage you to cry out and pray "Oh God, show me thy glory."  What joy to learn that there are still hymns and melodies I have yet hear.  Poetry so refined.  I have older hymnals but these hymns predate my treasures.

Blessings to you my friends.

Share your thoughts with me.  I would love to hear from you.

Lent 2015: Hope

©2015 ~ Cizon Sauceda ~ All Rights Reserved

As I prepared to read Wednesday, the first day of Lent 2015, my iPad Bible was opened to 1st Peter ~ Chapter 1 and so this is where I begin my journey.  Hope is paramount in my mind as I read this scripture.  Back when my children were young I had a cassette tape (remember those?) that had music / song set to scripture.  I loved this tape.  One of the verses / songs that I enjoyed and remember most was 1st Peter 1:3 and part of 4 (NIV):
'Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade...'

Isn't this great news!  GREAT NEWS!!!!

It's our hope, it's my hope.

The Cross is My Hope.

The Empty Tomb is My Hope.

Christ is My Hope.

1st Peter 1:13 (NIV) advises that '...with minds that are alert and fully sober, set your hope on the grace to be brought to you when Jesus Christ is revealed at his coming.'

It is the Messiah, Jesus Christ, the child ~ Immanuel, born and foretold of in the scriptures in Isaiah, announced in Luke and crucified in John who is my risen King as described in John and who ascended into Heaven as we are told in Acts.  This Hope.  This Grace.  It anoints my soul and encourages my spirit.

This season of Lent begins a journey to Easter as we celebrate with hope and anticipation of the coming of Christ.  Yes, it is a joyful celebration.  My Saviour Lives!  I am a child of the King.

As I digested scripture this first day of Lent I was impressed to research what there is regarding the days leading to the crucifixion, resurrection and ascension unto Heaven through the eyes of Peter.  I will share what I learn as I glean.

I share this HOPE with you:

He Is Risen...He Is Risen Indeed

Do you know my blessed Saviour?

Lent 2015: New Beginning

©2015.02.18 / Cizon Sauceda / All Rights Reserved

Lent 2015 begins my journey to focus on growing closer to God, Christ my King and allowing the Holy Spirit to fully work in my life.  This season will draw me nearer to Jesus and open my heart so that it hears the still small voice, strengthen my mind so that it understands and grows in knowledge and wisdom plus this season I will take steps that allow my body to become the temple that will glorify God in all I am and do.  In this hope and period of growth I am eliminating FaceBook and Netflix from my routine as these take away from life producing opportunities. This will be a period of prayer, communion, praise, worship, thanksgiving and study.  My best friend, Jesus, and I have some much needed one on one time to share.

Keeping It Real:  I'm Working On It!

Yesterday, 1/26/15, I finally did it.  I kept my carbs at 10% of the days calories.  Now today was a different story however.  It is a delicate line to walk to get the appropriate nutrients and balance of carbs, fat and protein.  It's a tight rope I walk but one I will continue to try.  I fell off the rope today but that makes me stronger for tomorrow because in less than an hour its a new day with a clean slate and a chance to try to make my mark again!

Goals for Keeping It Real for the next week:

  • Daily:   1500 calories;  10% carbs = 38 g;   25% protein = 94g;   65% fat = 108 g
  • Wednesday - 1/28/15:  30 minutes of either bike, treadmill, elliptical or zumba video routine plus strength training routine
  • Thursday - 1/29/15:  weigh-in day; Aqua Aerobics hour and 1 hour water jogging
  • Friday - 1/30/15:  30 minutes of either bike, treadmill, elliptical or zumba video routine plus strength training routine
  • Saturday - 1/31/15:  1 hour water jogging
  • Sunday - 2/1/15:  1 hour water jogging
  • Monday - 2/2/15:  30 minutes of either bike, treadmill, elliptical or zumba video routine plus strength training routine
  • Tuesday - 2/3/15:  call Phillip for his birthday; Aqua Aerobics hour and 1 hour water jogging
  • Wednesday - 2/4/15:  30 minutes of either bike, treadmill, elliptical or zumba video routine plus strength training routine

What's Your 'Selfie' Saying?

Portrait of Myself

There were a couple of things I read recently that caused me to pause and reflect.  The first was a statement made on FaceBook by a gal I went to junior high with and the second was a poem attributed to Teresa of Avila entitled Christ Has No Body.

My former classmate and Facebook friend, Shawn Garner, suggested:

"If you could take a selfie of your soul, would you find it attractive enough to post?"

A little bit later I came across the poem Christ Has No Body:

Christ has no body but yours,
No hands, no feet on earth but yours,
Yours are the eyes with which he looks
Compassion on this world,
Yours are the feet with which he walks to do good,
Yours are the hands, with which he blesses all the world.
Yours are the hands, yours are the feet,
Yours are the eyes, you are his body.
Christ has no body now but yours,
No hands, no feet on earth but yours,
Yours are the eyes with which he looks
compassion on this world.
Christ has no body now on earth but yours.

What a pause.  Am I living righteously?  I don’t necessarily mean upright and moral here, of course that is implied; however I do mean righteous living as in – Do I fear God?  To Fear God is to Live Right.  Am I living a life so exemplified that when a person looks at me that they don’t see me but see Jesus?

I have always told my kids ‘be careful little eyes what you see, be careful little ears what you hear, be careful little mouth what you say, be careful little feet where you go, be careful little hands what you do’.  These words are from a children’s song sung long ago in Sunday School and one I sang to my own children (and still do although they are grown).

Stop. Read that again and let it sink in:

Be careful little eyes what you see, be careful little ears what you hear, be careful little mouth what you say, be careful little feet where you go, be careful little hands what you do:  for the Father up above is looking down in love so be careful little …eyes, ears, mouth, feet, hands.

I am a servant.  Where I go, what I do, what I say, why I say or believe what I do, what I listen to all impact my witness which equals my ‘selfie’.  I serve a living Saviour whom I love and worship with all my being.  The Holy Spirit guides me closer daily as I seek Him and as I walk closer, as I draw nearer, as I live daily He lives in me.  The King is who I want my ‘selfie’ to portray.  I want others to see Jesus, to know Jesus, to want to know Jesus and desire to seek him and serve him too.

Each day I awaken to a fresh beginning full of grace and mercy that my God provides.  In Romans it tells me that I am a sinner, that I have fallen short of his glory but it also tells me that I am loved.  Christ loves me.  He loves me so much he gave his life for me and I believe, yes, I believe he rose and set me apart so that my sins are washed.  And the Word of God tells me that because Christ is in me I am dead yet my spirit is alive and it is because of righteousness.  See, my right living is a healthy dose of striving to be careful, to daily see that my hands, feet, eyes, ears and tongue honour God.  I am not perfect by any means.  I am a sinner.  Always a sinner saved by Grace.  It is that grace and that love and that outpouring of the Holy Spirit that I want to shine through me so that my ‘selfie’ is a reflection of the King of Kings.

One of my favorite verses, if not the most favorite is Philippians 1:3 I thank my God every time I remember you.  I love my friends and family near and far and those I do not know yet as friend.  I want these friends to know Jesus too because then they also will understand Philippians 1:4-6 In all my prayers for all of you, I always pray with joy because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now, being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.

I want you my friend to know my friend, Jesus.  I want his light that glows in my heart and in my life to shine so bright that when you look at me you see him instead.  There is no other like him and I pray my ‘selfie’, my self-portrait is the image of Christ because he loves you that much and I do too.

If you seek him, you will find him.   Leave me a comment if you want prayer and I will thank my God every time for you.  If you want this selfie of Jesus let me know and I'll introduce him to you if you don't know him.  He's waiting for you too.

Lifetime of Learning

I continue to move forward with weight loss, studying God's word, writing, worshipping and all the while through life and obstacles in life I keep learning of God's great love for me, of his mercy and of his plans.  I am currently working my way through a Bible study on (You Version) called the Essential 100.  I want to finish this by 3/31/15.  I feel it is important to have this under my belt as I head into a new era of living.  I fully believe and trust that all the doors and windows are moving so that in April I will begin studying through Global University for the Bible and Theology degree offered.

This much I know:  'get fit, seek me, take up your music' and the rest is yet to be known until the time God reveals it.  Get Fit equates to loosing weight and becoming healthy.  Seek Me is growing closer to God and knowing his Word.  How else can I Worship without knowing Christ more fully and his scripture more solidly?  This is the decision to study Bible and Theology by obtaining the degree through Global.  Every core of my being says I must because I must take this course of study with Global.  Take Up Your Music:  I am struggling here - does He mean my voice (I always thought maybe so as I love to sing) but quite possibly it is the french horn or trumpet/cornet again or what Lord - learn the piano more fully or even the guitar? I have imagined/dreamed of directing, of taking the parts and making it whole.  I visualize and hear the parts and when they come together it is indescribable the joy it stirs within my soul.  Often it jolts me into realization that I walked away from music because of not understanding theory.  How sad to know that 30 years ago God might have had plans that I turned away from over music theory; but I do know that he comes full circle and if that was a path he will reopen the gate.

Another part of me feels led to seek the law degree after the Bachelors in Bible and Theology but still I desire to serve in Music but only the Lord knows this path.  For now I will seek for acceptance in our churches music ministry to try and find understanding of the full extent of take up your music.  I continue to seek and walk in his light for he is an awesome God who is Good ALL the time!  A Saviour who understands best his plans for me and will reveal each step as I am faithful in the current step.
